Cost
Sayoo is currently free. Cloud features come with a free daily allowance. If you use it up, it resets the next day. There's currently nothing to pay for in Sayoo.
Your account
Sign in
Sayoo supports Sign in with Apple. You can also register and sign in with an email address and password. You need to be signed in to use cloud features.
When you register with an email address, Sayoo doesn't send a verification email, so make sure you enter your address correctly. Passwords can't be reset in the app yet. If you forget yours, see “I forgot my password” below.
Delete your account
Before you delete your account: if you use Sayoo on other devices, delete that account's history on them first, or delete Sayoo from them. After the account is deleted, those devices are signed out and you can no longer view or delete that history in the app.
To delete your account, go to Settings → Account → Delete account in Sayoo, then follow the steps on screen to confirm. If you use Sign in with Apple, the app first asks you to sign in with Apple again to confirm.
What happens when you delete your account:
- Your account data on our servers is deleted, and you're signed out on all your devices. This can't be undone.
- If you use Sign in with Apple, we also revoke Sayoo's Sign in with Apple authorization for your Apple Account.
- On the iPhone you delete it from, that account's history is cleared. Copies already in device backups aren't affected.
The Privacy Policy explains what we delete and what we keep.
Cloud processing and third-party AI
In cloud mode, what you translate (speech, text, or text recognized in a photo) and the text you choose to summarize go through Sayoo's server in Hong Kong to Alibaba Cloud Model Studio, which processes it in its Singapore region.
- The first time Sayoo is about to send anything to the cloud, it explains what will be sent, who processes it and why, and asks for your consent. Nothing is sent until you agree.
- You can withdraw or give consent again later in Settings › Cloud AI Processing.
- Your translation history is stored only on your iPhone.
On-device mode
In on-device mode, speech recognition and translation run on your iPhone. On-device mode is free.
- To turn it on, use the On device switch at the top of Sayoo's main screen.
- On-device mode needs offline models of about 1.7 GB. Sayoo shows the size before the download starts, and asks first if you're using a cellular connection.
- Once the models are downloaded, on-device mode works without an internet connection, and what you translate in this mode isn't uploaded.
- Text translation works offline in 22 languages. Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish are available only in the cloud.
- On-device mode never switches to the cloud on its own. If something isn't supported on device, Sayoo tells you.
- Offline models aren't included in device backups. On a new iPhone, download them again.
Frequently asked questions
I forgot my password. What can I do?
Passwords can't be reset in the app yet. Email us at support@sayoo.me and we'll help you.
Which features need an internet connection?
- everything in cloud mode, including AI summaries
- downloading offline models
- signing in and deleting your account
Once the offline models are downloaded, on-device mode works without an internet connection.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Sayoo recognizes the text in a photo on your iPhone and doesn't upload the photo itself. In cloud mode, only the recognized text is sent for translation. In on-device mode, translation happens on your iPhone too.
What is sent when I generate a summary?
Summaries are created in the cloud. Only the text you select is sent, not photos or your whole history. Records made in on-device mode are included only if you allow it.
How do I allow the microphone or camera?
Sayoo asks for microphone access the first time you use a voice feature, and for camera access when you take a photo of text. If you declined, open the Settings app, tap Privacy & Security, tap Microphone (or Camera), then turn on Sayoo.
Does turning off history saving delete my old records?
No. Turning off Save translation history in Settings only affects new content. Records you already have are kept.
How do I change the app's language?
Go to Settings → Appearance and language → Interface language. Choose one of 20 languages, or Follow system.
